Hello and welcome to my writing haven, Siren Shriek! I created this journal specifically as a permanent home for my works outside of the usual communities I post to, and all of my creative content related to writing can be found here.
I go by the pen name vermilion_aura, Vermi for short, the word vermilion a synonym for the words scarlet and crimson. I came up with this pseudonym back in 2009 when I decided to finally settle on a permanent alias after jumping from one name to another. Writing is among the many things I love to do, and it's my go-to outlet to escape from the various stresses of reality and life. For some personal insight about me, I'm a community college graduate with an Associate of Arts Degree in Social and Behavioral Science, and I work full-time in retail. Despite the craziness and stress my job brings me most of the time, I don't picture myself working anywhere else, for I've found my calling card where I'm at.
I started writing back in 2004 when my close and longtime friend, redkislington, began writing to fulfill her dream of becoming an author (which she finally fulfilled at the end of June 2025! I'm so proud of her!). Her motivation and determination made me want to try and see how creative I can get, and it's thanks to her, my other friends from my days in school, and a former friend I met in the fanfiction community that I managed to get where I'm at today. However, I didn't share my ideas with anyone until I was introduced to role-playing on Gaia Online (before the site admins took things down a different path and changed everything I had grown to enjoy), and it was from there that I awakened my writing spirit. I was introduced to fanfiction in 2005, but I didn't get into writing it until late 2007 when I tried out Quizilla's way of formatting for setting up the poor, on-the-fly content that was once my writing back in the day. My first fanfiction was a very crappy story in the Bleach fandom that I never finished and scrapped in my later years. (I'm not going to lie. It was complete shit now that I think back on it, but it served as a reminder of where I started and how far I've come since then.) Considering I was a teenager still trying to find my own voice and also attempting to form my own writing style back then, I was on a journey to figure all of that out and improve it.
In early 2008, I was hit with the hardest blow I had ever dealt with in my lifetime: cyberbullying in the forms of flaming, trolling, and dissing by two very vindictive and self-absorbed fanfiction authors who wanted to make sure I didn't have a place for fanfiction at all (whom of which are no longer active among the community, and ironically, one of them is the former friend I mentioned earlier; this person really showed their true colors to me and the negativity they wanted to spread with the other author who bullied me). As a result, I had to step away from fanfiction and writing in general and was idle for the next four and a half years. While I would write on and off and discover my permanent pen name, I would never post anything thanks to those same authors continuing to give me a difficult time (they were practically calling me every possible derogatory name in the book and even made up a couple of extra ones in the process) during that particular time span. Yet, despite that, I stayed resilient, never giving up hope (and also believing karma would ultimately dish her comeuppance, which she finally did a few years later), and one day in late 2013, I stumbled across my old fanfiction folder, reigniting the spark for writing that I thought would never return to me. After clearing out my old childish works with the exception of a select few, I chose to start over anew in a more, mature light and with a new appreciation for creativity, eventually putting together an idea for a Devil May Cry story that ultimately became my pet project and my baby (which I find very ironic, considering my bullies were also fans of the Devil May Cry series). From there, I found FanFiction.net (no longer active there, but you can still find my works there), redkislington introduced me to Archive of Our Own (which has become my primary place to post my works outside of this journal), and while I was searching for a blogging site, I came across Dreamwidth and made myself at home following my unsatisfactory experience with LiveJournal (mainly because my cyberbullies and their respective circles of friends, both in the fanfiction community and in real life, found their way there, and from my perspective, it was a place that attracted unnecessary negativity, drama, and bullshit).
Fanfiction is the bulk of my content, but you will also find some original works and poetry. When writing fanfiction, I write for my favorite fandoms in the worlds of anime and video games, with the majority of my works featuring original characters. While I have numerous favorite fandoms, I have narrowed down my list of which ones to write for throughout the years, mostly because of my interests shifting to my change in direction. The current fandoms I write for now are Castlevania, Criminal Minds, Devil May Cry, Ikemen Vampire, King Arthur (2004), Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. My works generally consist of chapter stories, one shots, and flash fics. Most of my works are written in the third person perspective, some works are written in second person (reader-inserts), and I write occasionally in first person.
As for the name, Siren Shriek, I primarily chose that name because I, the author, am the siren luring you, the readers, in with my works. My works will either be a pleasant song or an appalling shriek, depending on who you are and your preferred tastes. The shriek keeps the flamers and haters off my back.
Now that you have some insight about me and my writing history, let's move on to some rules.
This journal is open to the public, be it you have a Dreamwidth account or not. Adding me as a friend is completely optional if you do have an account. I find it isn't fair for those that don't have accounts to be locked out of the ability to access my works, especially since there are some works that can only be found here. In addition, this journal also serves as a backup home for all of my works in case Archive of Our Own goes offline for any reason. All I ask is that you abide by the rules listed below. These rules were created for my security since I was flamed, and I'd like to keep it from happening again to the best of my ability. Please do not let my security measures stop you from contacting me. I am a friendly person when you come to know me, and I will respect you as long as you respect me.

1. Please do not take my content in any fashion. These works and original characters have taken a lot of my time, energy, and effort to create, and they are my concoctions. I will not take kindly to anyone stealing what I've worked so hard to put together and announcing it as their own. To sum up this rule: do not claim what does not belong to you. I have seen plagiarism transpire in the community back in the day (it was a huge issue on Quizilla), and I would like to not have such an occurrence happen to me as best as I possibly can to ensure I never have to go through such an atrocious experience. We're plenty old enough to know better in this day and age, and if you have the gall to copy someone else's creation word for word and take credit for it nowadays, then you should leave and learn to form your own content.
2. My works typically range from the 13+ to 17+ tiers based on explicit composition. All of my works are rated accordingly for your perusal (more details in the Directory post), and warnings are always posted in advance to let you know what kind of content awaits behind those links. Please proceed with caution if racy smut/sexual themes (which I am a huge fan of and like to write often without batting an eyelash), scenes of angst, crude language, and depictions of violence are not your preferred cups of tea, and take note if you are viewing my works from a workplace environment, because some of them are definitely not safe for work.
3. Constructive feedback is always welcome and appreciated, but I have an absolute ZERO tolerance policy for flaming and disrespect. Any attempts on rudeness and/or degrading in ANY kind of fashion will not only get you banned from this journal, you will also be reported to the site administrators with absolutely NO exceptions whatsoever. As I mentioned earlier in this post, two former fanfiction authors (whose sickening, obsessive toxicity and pompous, condescending attitudes are thankfully, no longer tarnishing the community) have flamed, trolled, and humiliated me in the past on multiple sites (most of which have been taken down for different reasons). Their harsh actions and hurtful comments led me to go dormant, write little of anything pertaining to fanfiction, and very concerned to post anywhere in the community for a few years, which was super upsetting, to say the least. I will take the proper measures to ensure that doesn't ever happen to me again, or anyone else, for that matter, especially now that I have the tools necessary to report such disgusting behavior and negativity. Again, we're plenty old enough to know better now, and if you don't have anything nice and/or constructive to say, then don't say anything at all and kindly escort yourself out of here.
4. Last, but most definitely not least, please don't push me into posting new content. While writing is something I love to do, it is merely a hobby and stress reliever when needed. I have a full-time job and personal life, along with other responsibilities and hobbies, to attend to, and they take up a good majority of my time every day. It takes time for me to write new works, and I can assure you that your patience will pay off because you will get a project worth reading in the end. To follow a schedule of my own making when I write is a lot easier for me, because I can plot, write, and edit at my own pace. All of these steps take time (which is usually my spare time before work, after work, my days off, and vacation days), especially with the larger, multi-chapter stories, and I'd much rather publish a high-quality work than a poor one. Also, when I write a multi-chapter story, I wait until it's fully written and edited before I start publishing. From all of my observing in the years I've been in this community, there are so many authors who never finish a multi-chapter story and/or series, and thus, leave readers hanging and wondering. I don't want to be one of those authors and do the same thing to all of you, hence why it does take me a while (years, in certain cases) to put those multi-chapter stories together.
